Jan Koum, the co-founder and chief executive of WhatsApp, also said during a speech at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that he is hoping to grow the service to one or two billion users.

Mr. Koum said that the WhatsApp voice product would “focus on simplicity” as it has with its text-based messaging service.

He said that WhatsApp would first release a version of the voice service for Apple Inc.’s, iPhone and Google Inc.’s Android platforms, followed by services for Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Phone, as well as some phones by BlackBerry Ltd. and Nokia Corp.

“We want to continue to have that minimalistic approach to the product,” he said. “We at WhatsApp want to get out of the way and let people communicate.”

Mr. Koum added that the voice product would “use the least amount of bandwidth, and we optimize the hell out of it.”

Speaking about the Facebook acquisition announcement earlier this month, Mr. Koum said that the product wouldn’t change, stressing that WhatsApp would remain independent. He cited Instagram’s example, after the acquisition of the photo-sharing service by Facebook.

Mr. Koum said that WhatsApp was likely valuable to Facebook because “we both want to make the world more connected,” though Mr. Koum stressed that WhatsApp wanted to know “as little as possible” about its users, including details such as a user’s name.

“There are no plans to change anything that we do with the product today,” he said, using words like “minimalistic,” “utilitarian” and “uncluttered” to describe his philosophy.
Alausa in Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria to protest the demolition of
their shops by officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI and the
Lagos State Task-force on Environmental and Special Offences
(Enforcement) Unit.

The widows carried placards, calling on
Governor Babatunde Fashola to come to their aid as they had been plunged
into poverty and penury since the demolition of their means of
livelihood.

Some of the placards read: “Our shops have been
destroyed with no hope of relocating us to another place,” “We love our
governor, show us that you care about our plight,” “The death of our
husband is enough pain, don’t add hunger,” and “KAI has dumped our
children in the cell, please, release them.”

Protesting widows in Lagos

The widows, under the
aegis of Widows for Peace International, WFPI, said that the most
recent demolition of shops at Suru Alaba Market led by the task-force
had inflicted further hardship to the plight of many widows whose only
livelihood has been destroyed.

Spokesperson of the widows and President WFPI, Mrs Chinwe Dike said
the task force boss, Bayo Sulaiman led the demolition, saying that he
also led the demolition of their shops at NAPEX Shopping Complex in
Victoria Island where many traders, many of whom were widows were
displaced.

“Till today, no alternative shops had been allocated to
them. They were also not compensated for their losses arising from
inhuman exercise meted out to them by the agencies of the state
government. The constant harassment, castigation, and destruction of
wares of widows by Lagos State operatives have become a major concern.

“It is not only an abuse of our rights to earn legitimate living but
also antithetical to a harmonious co-existence, peace and development.
We demand that all shop owners who were displaced and their shop
destroyed, especially the widows should be compensated and shops
allocated to them at reasonably cost without hesitation,” she said.

She
also demanded that more than 1,000 children who had been unjustly by
KAI officials and currently languishing in detention be released with
immediate effect and that “their confiscated wares be released to them
and that all forms of harassment of widows should stop henceforth.

“Widows
for Peace International appeals to Governor Babatunde Fashola to
restrain the state operatives from further harassment and intimidation
of widows and to stop treating us as foreigners in our own country. We
acknowledge the efforts of the Lagos State Government to make Lagos a
mega city but that should be done with a human face.

“It will be
recalled that the same over-zealous agents of the state government last
year rounded up persons suspected to be of Igbo extraction and dumped
them at Onitsha head bridge in spite of their constitutionally
guaranteed right to freedom of movement. We ask the governor to use his
good office to check the excesses of his agents as enough is enough,”
she stated.Uncle Jerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094063938422807453noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-287455352216686955.post-20741328828101917582014-02-24T20:42:00.000-08:002014-02-24T20:42:00.421-08:00Nigeria University Games (NUGA) Anchor By Wande Coal, Wizkid and OthersHip-hop stars, Wande Coal and Wizkid, have been revealed as the
1. Beans: Beans
are a good source of fibre and proteins for our body. But they also
contain a type of sugar that doesn’t digest fast and causes bloating and
gas. We can all agree that a gassy and bloating belly is not ideal for
sex.

2. Garlic: Garlic adds extra flavour to our food, but it
is really a good idea before sex. It not only has a strong scent which
can be an instant turn off but also has starches that can cause
bloating.

3. Cheese:You probably didn’t expect cheese to make
it to the list of foods to avoid before sex, but the truth is that
cheese can be a smelly nightmare and can turn your partner off. Cheese
breath lingers on long after it has been consumed, so skip this food if
you want to impress your partner.

4. Red meat: A fancy steak meal may sound like a perfect night out but
you might want to reconsider your choice of meat. Red meat is heavy and
can take a long time to digest. This will leave you feeling sluggish
and sleepy, which will surely affect your performance in bed.

5. French fries: French
fries are filled with tran’s fats that can lower testosterone levels
and decrease blood circulation. They also contain a lot of salt, which
can make it difficult for men with high blood pressure to keep up a
strong erection.

6. Peppermint: While you might think that
chomping on a peppermint for fresh breath is a good idea before sex,
studies show that the menthol present in peppermint can reduce
testosterone levels and this can affect your sex driveUncle Jerryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15094063938422807453noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-287455352216686955.post-28413080106896996312014-02-18T06:52:00.002-08:002014-02-18T06:53:58.258-08:002 Major Nigeria Entertainment Blogs With Daily Genuine Gossip News If you're just like me that likes anything that has to do with simplicity such as having a pick when it comes to the source of entertainment news and gist from local blogs;
